Helene Jelman, ACA – Managing Director and CIO
Helene has more than 20 years investment management experience and founded Goldlake Capital in 2012. After university, she joined the financial services division of Price Waterhouse as an auditor, where she qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1994.
Helene started her investment career in 1995 as a French equity analyst with Cazenove & Co before joining Deutsche Asset Management as a fund manager managing approximately $1bn European small-cap equity funds. She then worked for two fund management firms, Arlington Capital Investors and GO Investment Partners as a Partner and Investment Director. Both firms managed concentrated European equity funds with an active shareholder engagement angle for large institutions (US & European public and corporate pension funds and a sovereign wealth fund). In both firms, Helene was a member of the Executive Committee and Investment Committee.
In 2010, Helene joined the Investment Advisory Team of a US Foundation responsible for the management of its endowment portfolio and carried out assignments for several investment firms providing advice on strategic asset allocation, general investment strategy and investment related market research.
Helene holds a BSc in Mathematics & Economics from the University of Sussex and an MSc in Globalisation and Development from the School of Oriental and African Studies (University of London). She also holds the following professional qualifications: ACA (ICAEW), SFA Securities Representative, Investment Management Certificate (IMC) and CFA Program Level 1.
Michael Usher – Investment Director
Michael Usher has more than 20 years investment management experience working in the UK private client sector. Michael joined Goldlake Capital in 2014 to develop the private client business. He is a Director of the company and a member of the Executive Board.
In 1992, Michael joined the newly founded Brooks Macdonald Asset Management where he became a Director, responsible for a team managing around £350million in client assets. He also served on the Treasury Committee and was a director of Brooks Macdonald Services Ltd, which provided custody services to Brooks Macdonald Asset Management. During the 19 years Michael spent at Brooks Macdonald total funds under management grew from approximately £30 million to £2.5 billion.
Michael left Brooks MacDonald in March 2011 to set up an asset management division for the Financial Planning firm Connor Broadley. During his time there, funds under management grew to approximately £200 million. Michael sat on the Executive and Management Board of the company and chaired Investment Committee meetings.
Michael started his investment career in 1985 with St Martin’s Property Corporation where he was involved in commercial property purchase and sale transactions as well as the performance measurement of a £3bn commercial property portfolio.
Michael holds the Investment Management Certificate (IMC) and a Level 4 Diploma in Financial Planning. He also holds a BSc Degree in Estate Management from Kingston University.
Anders Jegers, CFA - Head of Research
Anders has 20 years investment management experience. He joined Goldlake Capital in late 2016 as Head of Research to develop the European small-cap equity portfolio strategy.
Anders spent 11 years at Electrolux in various positions and locations in Europe before moving to the financial sector. He started his investment career as a sell-side analyst at the independent Nordic investment bank ABG Sundal Collier in 1997 and became a Partner in 2001. Whilst at ABG, he mainly covered companies in the industrial sector and serviced global clients with various investment styles including institutional and hedge fund clients.
In 2008, he joined Montanaro Asset Management, a London based fund management boutique with focus on European small-cap equities, as a senior analyst and left in 2014, while Head of Research, to work on his own business.
Anders is fluent in English and Swedish (mother tongue) and has intermediate knowledge of Italian. He is a CFA charterholder and has a MSc in Mechanical Engineering from Linköping University, Sweden.
The Advisory Committee was formed to provide advice and guidance to the Executive team. The Advisory Committee meets with the Executives six to eight times a year to discuss the broad macro-economic outlook, general market developments and investment performance. It also provides input into the asset allocation process and general corporate strategy.
Lailani Moody, CPA
Lailani is a retired partner of Grant Thornton LLP in New York. She joined Grant Thornton in 1993 where she was a member of the National Professional Standards Group specialising in accounting standards with emphasis on complex financial instruments, employee options and emerging accounting standard and issues. Whilst at Grant Thornton, she was a consultant to audit engagement teams and clients on complex accounting issues.
Prior to Grant Thornton, Lailani worked as an Associate Director for Ernst & Young International and as a manager in the Accounting Standards Division and Financial Planning division for the American Institute of CPAs. She is the Author of Issues Paper, “Accounting for Options” and AICPA manual for CPAs on providing financial planning services to clients.
Lailani holds the following qualifications: MBA (Baruch College of the City University of New York, Outstanding MBA Award), MS in Accounting (Georgetown University, Washingon D.C.) and a B.A. in History (Rosemont College, Rosemont, PA / Institut d’Etudes Europeenne, Paris, France).
Marc Schartz, CFA
Marc has extensive equity research, investment due diligence and fund management experience. He recently joined the European Equities team at Henderson Global Investors in London.
Marc started his career with Fortis Private Bank in Luxembourg as a portfolio manager where he managed US and European equity portfolios for the bank's high net worth clients.
He moved to London in 2007 to join GO Investment Partners, a fund management boutique managing a concentrated European equity fund with an active shareholder engagement approach. Marc was a Partner, Investment Director and a member of the Investment Committee at GO Investment Partners.
Marc is fluent in English, French, German and Luxembourgish (mother tongue). He holds the following qualifications: CFA Charter-holder, a Masters in Banking and International Finance (Cass Business School), a Maitrise in Sciences Economiques (Université de Montpellier), Investment Management Certificate (IMC) and an Advanced Corporate Finance diploma (London Business School).
